References for
Halloween Collectibles
From antique to vintage to modern, there are numerous Halloween guidebook references for Halloween’s second-hand marketplace for today’s collector. Each of these references has its own approach to the items we now view as collectible.
In terms of this site Craw-Bogle Trader (and items available for trade), you are welcome to initiate a proposal (trade/buy/sell) using your preferred Halloween collectibles guidebook, as this likely helps guide an equitable transaction by allowing both parties even footing. Therefore, various books are offered for your consideration…
Survey Books
As mentioned in The Halloween Retrospect, (which differs as more of a research series) there exist some visually-rich field-guide books about antique and vintage Halloween collectibles for today’s collector. Built on notable vintage Halloween collections – these survey the various types of seasonal items and the companies that produced such items – allowing one to get an overview of the amazing creativity of Halloween’s past.

Research Books & Blogs
Additional books offer research-based content pulled from a variety of primary sources including vintage-era catalogs and/or personal visits to manufacturer archives. From the modern era, there are two books most useful to The Halloween Retrospect,:
Claire Lavin
Claire M. Lavin “Timeless Halloween Collectibles: 1920-1949” (2005). Also author’s 2006 publication: “Time for Halloween Decorations” – both currently available.
See blog entry at The Halloween Retrospect.
Ben Truwe
Ben Truwe “The Halloween Catalog Collection: 55 Catalogs from the Golden Age of Halloween” (2003). Released in Book and CD formats – out of print.
See blog entry at The Halloween Retrospect.
The Halloween Retrospect
Inspired by the work of Lavin and Truwe, the original purpose of The Halloween Retrospect archive began as a personal collection of primary sources that seemed forgotten by time. These are vintage-era catalogs (newspapers, books, advertisements, etc.). From the library that developed, a subsequent goal became the sharing of research as dispatches through a series of self-published books (available thru the THR bookstore on Etsy) – not to forget current and past blogs online mentioned below.
